Aluminum mountain bike wheels are one of the more exciting products to design and build because the vast majority of the mountain bikers in the world ride them. They sit at the nexus of price, performance and durability, so being able to put the Chris King imprint on an alloy-rimmed, all-mountain wheelset is a thrill. It lets us bring the long-established superiority of our MTB hubs one step further, pairing them with a rim of our own design. As mountain bikers ourselves, riding what we’ve designed is one of the most gratifying things we do.

The MTN30 AL is designed for trail and aggressive all-mountain riding. As with all King products, it is designed and manufactured in the US, and comes in 29”, 27.5” and “mullet” mixed set configurations. After exhaustive comparative ride testing in the field and impact testing in the lab, we've created a wheel that both meets our durability standards and delivers the premium ride quality we were after - highly responsive and with just the right amount of trail feedback. We really hit that sweet spot between muted and too harsh, with a ride that feels ultra smooth but also connected to the terrain.

The MTN30 AL boasts an optimised 30mm internal width, the modern standard for mountain wheels. It features a precision-sleeved construction and a pronounced rim bead that improves sidewall protection. The rim and decals have a subtle matte finish, letting the hub color set the tone for the bike’s aesthetics. All MTN30 AL wheels have a 32-hole spoke count and a hookless bead for compatibility with today’s tubeless tyres.

We paired the MTN30 with our Boost Centerlock hubs and their 72-points of simultaneous engagement. That makes these wheels super efficient at transferring your power to the ground. Our bearings have heat-treated, surgical grade steel races that are machined simultaneously to ensure perfect matching. The quality and speed of our bearings is what you will feel on every ride. As Chris King bearing tracks burnish they actually get faster - a little bit of regular love (i.e. servicing) will keep this hub rolling for years upon years of demanding use.

And of course, this wheelset comes with the legendary angry-bee sound.
