ENVE - M5 PRO XC WHEELSET
The M5 Pro marks a new era in M Series cross-country wheels, raising the bar for speed, efficiency, and toughness. It is the result of a more than 4-year development project during which ENVE worked closely with its professional athletes to create something that would give the fastest endurance athletes an edge. Unique front and rear rim construction combined with an all-new shallow rim shape offer an unmatched blend of characteristics, designed to go far and fast.
A top priority in the M5 Pro's development was enhancing ride quality to reduce rider fatigue. A new novel rim shape and improved carbon laminate boosts rim compliance by over 25%. This allows the rim to contour to the trail, absorbing repeated impacts before they transfer to the rider.
To support the ever-increasing widths of modern cross-country tires, the M5 Pro has been widened to a 29mm internal rim width at the front and 27mm at the rear. Adding width and reducing height in a carbon rim both inherently add weight, which made the creation of the wider, shallower, and lighter M5 Pro a true engineering challenge.
Many of the ultralight wheels on the market sacrifice durability, ride quality, and serviceability in favor of all-out weight reduction. The M5 Pro however sheds weight without compromise by using smarter construction and carbon layup, as well as lightweight but reliable hubs, spokes, and nipples.
Wide Hookless Bead Pinch Flat Protection
The M5 Pro, M6, and M8 wheels all feature ENVE’s patented Wide Hookless Bead technology built into the rim. It features a wide-rim bead to dissipate impact forces across a broader surface area when a tyre is bottomed out on an object. This reduces the likelihood of pinch-flats by 50%. The rear rim features a wider rim wall than the front, as our data and real-world testing have found rear rims will pinch flat most often. The new M Series' compliant design further aids in pinch-flat reduction.
ENVE INNERDRIVE Straight-Pull Hubs
ENVE’s Innerdrive hub system refines and improves upon proven ratchet-driven technologies by increasing the diameter of the ratchets to allow for higher engagement without sacrificing durability. Supplied with an 80 tooth drive ratchet, riders also have the option of choosing 40, 60, and 100t ratchets to tune the hub engagement rate to their preferences. With the highest tooth count, Innerdrive hubs will engage in as little as 3.6 degrees. Further benefits of the Innerdrive system include ENVE’s Perfect Preload system, which delivers prolonged bearing life and minimal maintenance.
Unique Front and Rear Widths and Construction
Each wheel in the new M Series 5th Generation lineup features unique front and rear rim construction. The front rim is more compliant to allow the wheel and tire to contour over and around terrain, reducing the jarring sensations of repeated frontal impacts. The rear is firmer, to maximize power transmission and impact toughness. Widths are optimized for front and rear tyres, with the front rim running slightly wider than the rear.
External Nyloc Locking Nipples
All M Series rims feature ENVE's patented molded spoke hole technology (US Patent # 8,313,155 B2), but now with external locking nipples. Each nipple is equipped with a Nyloc insert to keep spokes tensioned and wheels true.
